Analysing contents pages
This is what I would call a stereotypical cover of a rap magazine. This is because the person in the image is wearing the types of things you would associate with the rap genre such as glasses, chains and a cap. This contents page's theme is a very vibrant white colour with a black text. The text fits in nicely with the rappers hair and classes which stand out against the white. This was a simple yet effective way in portraying the genre of the magazine, which is clearly rap, while still looking presentable.
The text used in the title is unusual for this type of magazine because it's perhaps not as strong and 'loud' as the text used in most magazines. This being said however, I think it fits in well with this magazine and does not lead the audience from being aware what type of magazine they are reading.
This is a very different layout to most rap magazines. This is because the title is split up, instead of being a whole word. Along with this the contents list is situated along the left of the page. This is unusual because most magazines try and put the contents on the right, as it to entice the reader to turn over the page and read on.
The theme of the magazine works well. the red, silver and white really catch the eye without being to vibrant to understand. This is a good balance because sometimes adding too many colours can make the page unappealing to read.
Overall I do not think that this page is very effective as a contents. This is because it is rather confusing to look at, along with the text being too small and not clearly labelled. I will make sure that my contents is easy to read and the page numbers are clearly labelled. Analysing this page and noticing all its flaws will hopefully help me avoid making the same sort of mistakes that were made here.

This is an interesting rap cover in many ways. I think it is good because it is so simply done but is still effective. In this cover the main story is advertised more clearly than the rest of the stories. It is written in a bigger font and is positioned in the bottom right corner of the magazine. This is done so that the reader sees this first after looking at the image on the page.
The theme is a dark grey/black with white text. This white texts stands out clearly against the black and other dark colours which makes it easy to read. Is simple because instead of having fancy texts and a lot of colours, it has plain dark colours and simple writing. It is very effective because the reader knows that it is a contents page without it being labelled on the actual page as such.
This is an interesting contents page. It is interesting because unlike in the others, it does not have a colour scheme as such. Instead it has been edited into a more blueish/grey water coloured page. This has simplified the whole page and makes everything a lot more dull. In my opinion this has made the page more boring and less interesting to read. I believe this effect has taken the fun out of the page.
The text is quite fancy however and looks more 'fun'. It is quite clearly labelled and it is clear what will be included in the magazine. This is quite good because sometimes when using a more fancy text it can become more unclear to read.
As in every contents page I have looked at so far, it contains a stereotypical rapper in the image. He is also wearing the things you would associate with rappers.
Plan
I started off by making a very basic plan of my contents:
I decided I would like the picture to be placed on the left and it should be slightly touching the contents title. I thought that this would make the page seem more professional and interesting to people looking at it. The overlap also looks quite nice of most of the pages I have examined.
This is the image I am thinking about using for my contents page. I am not sure if I should however as I feel it may confuse the audience as it doesn't appear to have a lot to do with the rap genre of music. This being said my magazine is all about alternative types of rap and how they mix other instruments in with their lyrics.
This is my final contents page. I decided to go with the piano picture after all, I felt that this picture fit quite nicely with the text and colour scheme. I thought that even know the picture is bright and the background is not, that both colours came together quite nicely. This also lead me to think that the cover looks quite professional and stylish. I went with quite a fancy font for the title as it made the whole page look more modern. I felt this was a nice touch to the page and helped me make it look more stylish yet again. Although the picture may appear to have not a lot to do with rap I thought this was okay, that is because in the double page spread I do explain about the genre mix and how it works.
