This double page spread seems like a typical double page and does not offer anything much different from the rest. Its overall colour theme is black and white with a few bits of red around the page. The story is completely to one of the two pages and the other contains only pictures, and a small part of the title. The pictures have all been turned into black and white which helps fit the genre of the magazine well. Instead of one big picture there are many smaller and one rather large picture. These feature the band members playing, singing and in deep conversation with each other. These are common things you would expect to see in a band and therefore is good to see in a magazine.
The text of the double page spread is white and stands out really well against the black/grey background. This is good because usually a bright colour against a black background would hurt your eyes to read. There is also a white strip down the page in which the text changes to red and black. This blends in nicely with the page and adds effect to the dull grey and black theme. This overall works very well and makes the whole page simple and readable, while also not too boring.
The content on the page is all relevant to the genre of music it writes about, which is clear for first glance. The pictures featured are all of the band and various activities to do with them. There are no irrelevant pictures or paragraphs that do not belong in the article. Taking all this into account I think this is a fairly good double page spread and I believe mine would look good if I took some ideas from this magazine.

This double page spread is quite a lot different than the previous one. This spread is a lot more simple which in ways is good but can make it look unprofessional and unfinished in the end. The overall theme of it is a murky grey background with a simple black text on top. This makes it look plain but also makes it very clear to read.
There is only one picture on this page which I don't think is enough, just because this leaves a lot of room on the page which would look better filled than empty. The picture follows the colour theme by showing a man holding up some paper the same colour paper as is on the background. On this paper is the man's front cover for his new album. This is an effective way to advertise and will.
This double page spread is primarily used to advertise the artist that is featured in the picture. This is a good way to get a band known because people that are likely to read your magazine are likely to enjoy the sort of music you are advertising about. This artist seems to cover already popular songs from the rap/grime genre. This is relevant to me since I am doing a rap magazine myself.
The font in this magazine is the standard you would find on a word document which makes me feel this double page spread has not had much time put into it. Because of this and other faults such as the lack of images I have decided I do not want my spread to look like this. I find this spread too dull which makes it boring and not interesting to read.
This spread seems to follow the same theme that many other magazines do, by which i mean the black and yellowish colour followed up with a large picture. My first impression when looking at this spread is positive because it looks professional and quite interesting to read.
The overall colour theme of the magazine works fairly well as the dull yellow and black mix in well with the clothing featured in the picture because that is also yellow and black. The picture depicts a man in a hoody looking like a fairly stereotypical rapper. This is because he is wearing gold jewellery and clothing specific to this genre of music. The man in the picture is also wearing glasses which are not specific to rapping. This is because most rappers would wear sunglasses however this person is wearing regular glasses that would be used for bad vision. While this may be abnormal it still works well and still leaves the music genre easily readable.
The content of the spread is all well done because it is informative while also situated around rap, which overall makes it interesting to read. It is quite a short text compared to the others but it is still very filled with information, and instead of being full of unnecessary details it gets straight to the point. I think this writing style is effective and think I should write mine in a similar way.
My Double Page Spread
After analysing these double page spreads I have decided mine needs to be:
- Short and to the point, but not lacking in detail
- Full of various images not leaving the page too empty
- interesting to look at as well as read
- All relevant to the rap genre of music
I decided to do a plan of my double page spread and see which colour theme would be best for it.
This is a very rough plan for my Double page spread. I decided I would like to have my text split into 4 columns like most other magazines do. I also decided I would like a minimum of two pictures on my page. While this may be different from most of the double page spreads I have analysed, I felt it would work well.
I have decided my article will be based on a new rap band made by Liam. I felt this would be a good story as I planned to write about how the band has mixed rap along with guitars. I felt this would interest the audience because it is unusual and most people like to see people trying new things when it comes to music.
After I had decided all that I went on to write my story and pick my colour theme. I went with a deep red colour which was washed out a little bit. I also wrote my whole story which featured an interview with the latest upcoming rapper, Liam from the Deacon D's. The interview contained an important point about the rap artists of the D's using unusual instruments while performing their alternative rap. This was good because it matched well with my pictures which were used and also made for quite interesting reading.
After a long decision I decided to use half the page for the picture on my double page spread. This is because I felt the image was too small when I used it as my plan showed. I tried to use a background on the picture and similar to that of the page, I felt the red and blacked worked well together and made it look quite interesting. I thought the title was nice a bold, plus had a short and catchy name. This makes it more enticing to read and tells the reader exactly what to expect from this article. I kept the font of the text plain so that it was easily readable, and also made sure it wasn't too small. The white text on the red background also worked well and did not make you strain your eyes to read it. All of these things together made me feel like my double page spread was quite successfully done and rather professional.
